Visual3D Tools Segment joint definition: medial and lateral targets
This tutorial explains what medial and lateral targets are and how they can be used to define basic segments in Visual3D.
In this video, a cylinder represents a simple body segment like a forearm or a shank. Markers are placed on the segment on the medial (inner) and lateral (outer) sides of each end.
These targets are then input in Visual3D to define the proximal end of the segment (closer to the center of mass) and the distal end (farther from the center of mass). The segment can now be tracked using the medial and lateral targets alone.
This segment definition also gives a segment coordinate system that can be used for model calculations later on.
